AT THE REQUEST OF THE NPA THE FOLLOWING ADVICE TO BOAT USERS IS GIVEN

Please see below reminder that the Great Scottish Swim is returning to Loch Lomond on 23rd August. As with last year, the Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway will not be accessible from 08:00am on Thursday 21st August to 10:00pm on Saturday 23rd August. We would appreciate it if you could help remind your members of the closure. We have lettered all permit holders for the Slipway, have notices around the slipway itself, will be placing notices in local newspapers and sending reminders out on social media. If you can suggest any other avenues of highlighting the closure please let me know.

“The Great Swim series is returning to Loch Lomond on 23rd August this year. Last year the event attracted 2,000 swimmers and their families to the area along with significant UK wide media coverage. With over 60% of competitors and their families coming from outside Scotland and staying in local accommodation, the event brings with it a great economic boost to Balloch and the surrounding area.

There will be a number of races throughout the day, from early morning to early evening. Participants will be entering the water from the slipway, swimming a course out on the loch and exiting the water at Drumkinnon beach. In order to ensure everyone’s safety we have taken the decision to close Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway from 8:00am on Thursday 21st August to 10:00pm on Saturday 23rd August. This is to allow time for the event organisers to construct the required health and safety infrastructure in and around the slipway building, and on the water. During this period it will not be possible to launch or retrieve craft at the slipway. (NPA NOTICE ENDS)

ADDITIONAL INFO FROM LLA

If you are out in your vessel please closely observe the buoyage set out to protect the swimmers in the race area, AND DO NOT ENTER INTO THIS AREA UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. IF YOU ARE APPROACHING THE RACE AREA FROM THE NORTH, PLEASE ENSURE YOU COME OFF THE PLANE EARLY SO AS YOUR WASH DOES NOT TO THREATEN THE SAFETY OF EITHER THE SWIMMERS OR THE SAFETY KAYAKERS OPERATING WITHIN THE BOUNDARY OF THE RACE AREA.
NPA PATROL BOATS WILL BE OPERATING AT THE RACE BOUNDARIES TO ENSURE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE.

Thank you for your cooperation with the above guidance.
